What makes a good CBD supplier?

A Buyer Beware Market

CBD is popping up everywhere. Product innovations like lip balm, body cream, and water are encouraging more consumers to try this promising cannabinoid. As the market has grown, so has the number of people involved, some of which don’t always have the best intentions. Oversees suppliers have been known to push unvetted hemp and CBD ingredients into the U.S. market. Additionally, the industry, because of its youth,  has a lack of regulation, which leads to varying quality levels. On top of that, testing and quality control is not standardized, leaving suppliers to define and enforce their own quality assurance protocols. So, with this knowledge, what is an up and coming brand that is focused on consumer wellness supposed to do?

Find a Supplier You Trust

In this market, much like any, trust is essential. Find a supplier you trust and, preferably, one that you can visit. Your supplier should be as committed to product quality as you are, and that should be apparent in their methodology. As we talk to brands and continue to improve our own services, we’ve identified three key capabilities:

  1. End to End Traceability: An ingredient supplier should always know where their biomass comes from. With visibility to the farm, the cultivation practices, and the hemp genetics, an extractor can be sure that the extraction process starts with a foundation of quality.

  2. Certified Third-Party Testing: Third-party testing is required for all CBD ingredient suppliers, however, not all third-party testing facilities are created equal. Look for organizations working with a DEA certified lab who offers transparent and unmanipulable Certificates of Analysis.

  3. Redundant In-House Testing: An in-house testing lab, while not required, helps a facility measure product potency throughout extraction and ensure processes are functioning correctly. With a continuous flow of information, problems can be identified and fixed quickly, before they reach a consumer.

By emphasizing these three areas, we have confidence that the products we produce are high quality and can make a valuable contribution to the wellness of your consumers. Knowing that your supplier has an unwavering commitment to quality will give you the peace of mind that you need to build a brand with products your customers will love.
